Why we love

20 km north of Angoulême, Jauldes has preserved a living rural heritage that this short hike around Cherves will allow you to discover.

Your itinerary

1

Step 1

From the square, walk along the large house and its garden to reach Rue du Puits de Cherves. Go straight down, see the well on the right just before the RD 91. Cross carefully to take the path opposite. A second well borders the path at the entrance to Petit Cherves. Take the RD 113 to the right.
2

Step 2

Turn left after the village exit sign. Go along the hedge and continue through the crops. Turn left at the entrance to the undergrowth and continue for 700 m.
3

Step 3

Turn left at the intersection before the village of La Motte – you can see the house before turning. Continue to the RD 91 which you cross carefully to take the path offset 20 m to the right which will cross the crops. Ignore a path to the left.
4

Step 4

Continue straight at the intersection. The path descends gently to the next crossroads.
5

Step 5

Turn left on the old Roman road which crosses the town from north to south. Carefully cross the RD 113 to take the opposite. Pass 3 paths on the left for 1km
6

Step 6

Turn left at the edge of the small wood, then left again at the next crossing. Ignore the path to the right
7

Step 7

Go left at a grove. We are then on the old track of the "Petit Mairat" of the Economic Railway Company from Angoulême to Confolens. Jauldes had a station in the town, two stops (at La Mornière and Cherves, which had a covered stop) and an optional stop at La Motte.
Go up to the village where you enter via Rue du Logis de Torsac. Turn left at the end to reach the starting point.
